The Florida Highway Patrol’s K-9 Academy recently completed their Drug Detection Academy, in Tallahassee. The teams began their training on April 11, 2010 and concluded on June 10, 2010 when FHP Director Col. John Czernis presented each handler with a certificate of completion. The K-9 Drug Detection Training School is a rigorous 320 hours of instruction and performance under the supervision, guidance, and instruction of FHP’s statewide instructor and evaluator Trooper Michael Van Leer. While at the academy, the teams conducted more than 500 training searches on various vehicles, vessels, tractor trailers and buildings. The teams successfully passed the International Forensic Research Institute proficiency exam and are ready to hit the highways.
