On Aug. 18, 2011, Maj. James G. Brierton, the troop commander of the Florida Highway Patrol’s Troop E (covers Miami-Dade and Monroe counties), graduated from the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute's 45th Session of the Chief Executive Seminar in Tallahassee. The Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute, established within the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and affiliated with the State University System, was established in 1990 by the Florida Legislature to fulfill the need for innovative and multifaceted methods of educating and training our state's criminal justice professionals.

The goal of the important seminar is to prepare selected members of Florida's criminal justice leadership for the new demands and challenges of our state's criminal justice needs. Major Brierton and his fellow classmates studied current trends in law enforcement and gained knowledge on the leadership skills that are crucial to meet the challenges Florida faces now and in the future.
