Trooper Dyer
Trooper Dyer

On Jan. 1, 2012, troopers, friends, law enforcement colleagues, and family members gathered to celebrate the life of Trooper William "Bill" Dyer III. Trooper Dyer died Dec. 28 as a result of a medical illness he suffered in October 2011.

The services included a heartwarming tale of how Trooper Dyer loved his job as a law enforcement officer and fulfilled a lifelong dream the day he joined the Florida Highway Patrol. Col. David Brierton spoke about Bill's commitment and pride at being a Florida Highway Patrol trooper. He acknowledged Bill's 16 years of service to the state of Florida. He reassured the family that while Trooper Dyer was gone, he would not be forgotten. Trooper Dyer was laid to rest with honors during a reserved service in Tallahassee, as requested by his father and mother.

Trooper Dyer began his career with the Florida Highway Patrol in 1994 as a member of the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary. He later applied and was accepted as a member of the 89th recruit class in 1996. Dyer served Florida's residents and visitors for more than 16 years.
