Lt. Jimmie Collins, an instructor at the Florida Highway Patrol Training Academy in Havana, Fla., loves helping others. At his church, Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, you can always find him working with whoever needs assistance, from serving in Children’s Church to singing carols to the residents of Bethel Towers (an independent living facility for the elderly). There is never a task too menial for him. He loves to serve.
Collins currently chairs the church’s Homeless and Haiti ministries. Bethel’s Homeless ministry, under the direction of Pastor R.B. Holmes Jr., has served Saturday lunch at The Shelter located on the corner of Tennessee and Macomb Streets for more than 12 years. Collins has worked with the ministry since 2001 and currently chairs the ministry. He also serves as the chair of the Haiti Ministry and just returned from his fifth trip to Pignon, Haiti since 2005. Collins traveled with 11 other missionaries to teach approximately 200 children during a weeklong Youth Camp at Camp de la Grace in Pignon. The picture shows Collins with one of the many children he has befriended since he began traveling to Haiti.
