Troop I’s, Trooper Erick McGuire, was named champion at the Florida Inspector’s Championship (FIC) on Saturday May 24, 2014. This is the third consecutive year Trooper McGuire has won the event. The Championship was held in Tampa in conjunction with the Florida Truck Driving Championship which is sponsored by the Florida Trucking Association.
The FIC is an event developed to recognize the commercial vehicle safety program in Florida, and to promote uniformity of inspections through education. During the FIC, members were challenged with a written examination followed by multiple evaluated practical exercises that included a Level I inspection, two hazardous materials inspections and a motor coach inspection. Each of these practical exercises assessed each member’s knowledge of rule, interpretive guidance and mechanical operation of commercial motor vehicles.
In addition to the FIC, CVE members also participated as judges in FTA’s Truck Driving Championship (TDC) where Florida’s safest commercial vehicle drivers and companies competed for the title of Grand Champion. During this event, FIC participants and industry safety professionals had the opportunity to discuss and learn the benefits and obstacles of promoting highway safety throughout Florida. Participants discussed the realities facing the transportation industry on a daily basis. The annual FIC/TDC is the largest outreach between enforcement and industry in Florida each year, and provides a unique opportunity for both groups to collaborate on ideas and opportunities to improve transportation safety.
As Florida’s champion, Trooper McGuire will compete in the National Inspector’s Championship in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania on August 11-15, 2014.
Great job Trooper McGuire!
