TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles today released Technical Advisory Number MH04-02 to clarify a previously issued technical advisory affecting the siting of manufactured/mobile homes in Florida. The new advisory clarifies that any manufactured/mobile home that is involuntarily relocated can be re-sited within the federally designated wind zone in which it is currently sited or in a lesser wind zone. It identifies specific instances where involuntary relocations due to private or governmental actions are exempt from the previous advisory.
The October technical advisory addressed the re-siting of manufactured/mobile homes based on federally designated wind zones. After further review of the October advisory and discussions between the department and stakeholders around the state, it was determined that clarification was needed so that issues involving life and safety were balanced with the need to ensure affordable housing, especially in the aftermath of the recent hurricanes.
