FHP Issues Update to Incident in Palm Coast Florida

Press Release

PALM COAST, FLA.– On October 25, 2023, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Troopers in the Palm Coast initiated a traffic stop on a white Acura for Reckless Driving and endangering the motoring public. The female driver of the white Acura refused to stop and attempted to flee. FHP Troopers gave chase and pursued the fleeing driver.

After a brief pursuit, the fleeing driver was forced to stop the vehicle due to encountering a dead-end roadway. While Troopers were attempting to take the driver into custody for felony fleeing and eluding, the driver accelerated the vehicle towards a Trooper on scene.

Faced with the immediate deadly threat of being struck by the vehicle, the Trooper discharged his firearm in a successful attempt to immobilize the deadly threat. The driver received gunshot wounds and was unable to continue her efforts to strike the Trooper with her vehicle. Troopers provided immediate first aid and summoned Fire-Rescue to respond to treat the driver.

There were no injuries to the Troopers on scene or the female passenger. The driver was transported to a local hospital and is receiving treatment.

FDLE responded to the scene and will investigate the use-of-force providing information to the state attorney.  The Florida Highway Patrol will conduct an internal investigation as is routine. Additional information is not available at this time.
