Florida Highway Patrol, Orlando Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office Team Up for Street Takeover Operation

Florida Highway Patrol, Orlando Police Department, Orange County Sheriff's Office team up for street takeover operation

At Conclusion of the Operation, FHP Issues Over 150 Citations to Participants, Spectators

ORLANDO, Fla. – This weekend, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) launched a proactive initiative to prevent a planned street takeover event in Orlando. Collaborating with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) and Orlando Police Department (OPD), FHP Troopers coordinated ground and aerial communication resources. Together, the agencies aimed to send a clear message to those participating in unlawful street takeover activities that their actions will not be tolerated in Florida.

During the operation, several locations hosting illegal street takeover gatherings were identified. As smaller gatherings dispersed, larger ones began to form, including an event held at an industrial warehouse complex located off Emerald Dunes Drive in Orlando. Troopers and other law enforcement officers strategically converged to manage the entrance and exit to the complex, allowing them to carry out enforcement activities for both event participants and spectators.

Florida law prohibits the participation and spectating of street racing, street takeovers and stunt driving as outlined under Section 316.191, Florida Statutes. At the conclusion of the detail, FHP issued/facilitated the following:

  • 154 citations (132 for spectating)
  • 2 criminal notices to appear
  • 3 arrests
  • Multiple vehicles towed

FHP appreciates the collaboration with law enforcement agencies like OCSO and OPD to hold reckless individuals accountable and keep Florida citizens and visitors safe.

If you encounter street racing, stunt driving or a roadway takeover while you are on the road:

  • Remain calm
  • Do not engage
  • If possible, safely pull over to the side of the road
  • Report it by calling *FHP or 911 and you will be immediately routed to the nearest dispatch center.
