Browser Security
To protect the privacy and confidentiality of our customers, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) routinely maintains security between web browsers and the department’s interactive online applications.
Browser Restrictions
If you are using an older version of a web browser, you may be blocked from logging into FLHSMV interactive online applications. The department prohibits access to FLHSMV system by web browsers using Transport Layer Security (TLS) versions 1.1 or less. The latest versions of common web browsers support TLS 1.2. Users who are blocked must update their browser before they can access certain interactive online applications.
Why update your browser?
Keeping your browser updated ensures a safer, more productive interactive experience. Web browsers provide periodic updates as issues arise or new security features are developed. Security updates patch vulnerabilities that may be exploited by malware, helping keep users and their data secure.
What browsers are supported and how do I update?
For optimized performance and security, you must use a browser that utilizes TLS 1.2 or greater. The latest versions of the most common browsers are listed below. These browsers use TLS 1.2 and are supported for use with FLHSMV websites:
- Chrome (version 36 and above)
- Edge
- Firefox (version 38 and above)
- Internet Explorer 11
- Safari (version 7 and above)
