Trooper Dominic Fontenot

On July 3, 2022, while patrolling in the area of Interstate 95 near State Road 202, Trooper Dominic Fontenot was alerted by the communications center of a wrong-way driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of State Road 202. Trooper Fontenot activated his emergency equipment and traveled to the last known location. As he was traveling eastbound on State Road 202, he passed the wrong-way vehicle that was in the westbound lane. He exited onto Kernan Boulevard and traveled back on State Road 202 westbound. As he entered the westbound lanes of State Road 202, he observed the wrong-way vehicle in the left lane approaching Kernan Boulevard. The vehicle continued to travel eastbound in the westbound lane as Trooper Fontenot approached the wrong-way vehicles. Trooper Fontenot made the decision to stop the wrong-way vehicle by utilizing his patrol vehicle. Trooper Fontenot struck the left front of the wrong-way vehicle and the collision caused the wrong-way driver to become disabled and stop.
